Out With the Old, In With the New: Everything You Need to Know about the Recent TrustScore Update

Since 2008, the TrustYou “TrustScore” has served as a badge of honor for hotels. It is calculated based on verified reviews from across the web and serves as an independent, third party score of a hotel. Thousands of hotels proudly display it on their hotel websites, helping to impact their direct bookings. And the scores influence millions of travelers around the world who see the hotel ratings on the world’s leading travel sites like Google, KAYAK, Skyscanner and many others.

Now that the history lesson is over, here’s the big news!

As of June 1, 2016, the TrustScore widget will have a new and improved look! The speech bubble-like icon received a few key updates:

• The ratings display on a 5 point scale, vs the previous 100. This mimics the star ratings that appear within Google’s rich snippets (see example below).
• The text designation (i.e. Excellent, Very Good, Good) appears prominently at the top of the widget.
• No matter what your score, it will be highlighted in green text. We’ve removed the yellow and red text to eliminate any unnecessary negative connotations.

Don’t have a TrustScore on your hotel or company website? Contact us to get that fixed!

If you currently display the TrustScore on your hotel website, there is no action required to upgrade to the new design! However, if you wish to keep the old design, here is a bit of tech jargon from our product team to help you with the transition:

If you wish to keep using the old design and scale, please append the parameter v=5.34 to the src attribute of the iframe.

If you want the new design, but scale to 100, that’s possible, too, by adding scale=100 to the iframe src URL.

There is no need for you to update custom visualizations that you’ve built on the JSON version of the TrustScore or Meta-Review. The score will be scaled to 100 going forward.
