What Travelers Rant and Rave About Most

Travelers returning from their journeys are often known to gush — or complain — about their trips, from the destination to the hotel to the food. TrustYou, an online company that monitors comments and opinions from sources like Facebook, Google+, Twitter, and Yelp, has compiled a top 10 list of travelers’ hotel rants and raves.

The results reveal that travelers rant and rave about the same things, with quality of service topping the list, and the list shows that compliments far outnumber complaints. While 103,440 travelers complimented their hotel service as being friendly, professional, efficient, a mere 11,785 travelers complained about the service being unprofessional or incompetent, only 5,123 said that it was unfriendly, and 4,266 complained that it was bad.

Tasteless bad breakfast and bad food were the fourth and fifth highest complaints, respectively, after small room size and expensive or overpriced accommodations. Bad bathrooms ranked eighth and a loud, noisy room took the 10th spot.

But when things were good, travelers didn't hesitate to share. Hotel guests were eager to discuss the great food and great breakfast, which ranked fourth and fifth behind a great, well-situated location and a good room. A clean room, large room, affordable price, good bed, and nice view rounded out the list of the top 10 raves.

TrustYou, which searches 700 reviews every minute, analyzed 1 million randomly selected online reviews, tweets, and posts across the social web, from websites like TripAdvisor, Facebook, Google+, Twitter, and Yelp in 23 different languages written within the past year to compile the list.
