Hotelchamp partners with TrustYou and offers review content to users:

It’s been another exciting week for us, since we added a new partner to our portfolio! Our Meta-Reviews service will complement Hotelchamp’s solution and our vast collection of analyzed reviews will be combined with Hotelchamp’s all-in-one direct booking platform. All of this is meant to boost direct bookings and build stronger guest relationships. “We are keen to be joining forces with TrustYou to provide hoteliers with the most advanced solutions to drive direct bookings,” says Kristian Valk, CEO of Hotelchamp.

Our client Skyscanner sees big boosts in conversion for users of its Direct Booking solution:

Skyscanner’s Direct Booking solution, which seeks to provide a flexible, optimized retail experience, has seen an across-the-board increase in conversion of 20% among the airlines and online travel agencies that have adopted it. In the mobile channel, suppliers have seen up to a 50% increase in conversions. Skyscanner said it has been able to deliver greater ancillary sales, higher conversion rates and better yield on those sales by removing friction, so that when travelers decide to travel they can book the trip “then and there, on whichever device they choose.”

STR analyzes Hurricane Harvey impact on hotel markets:

All Houston hotel submarkets reported occupancy growth after the initial days of Hurricane Harvey. However, four of 13 STR-defined submarkets reported a year-over-year occupancy decline during the nine-day period analyzed by STR’s Consulting & Analytics department. Additionally, significant occupancy decreases were reported in the southern Louisiana area. “Double-digit occupancy declines were seen throughout a majority of the Houston market up until August 27 when hotels began filling up with displaced residents, FEMA and other demand related to recovery efforts,” said Ali Hoyt, STR’s senior director of consulting and analytics.

How the iPhone has been making its mark on travel:

The iPhone is 10 years old this year so Travelport has taken the opportunity to look at how it has impacted travel. Elements which stand out include the evolution of mobile apps as well as how teletext-based services have declined. Further development of the iPhone is a certainty and the iPhone 8 release, anticipated in the next few days, is expected to include facial recognition functionality, which will further impact travel. Already, a number of airports and airlines are trialling this kind of technology including Delta, Finnair, JetBlue and KLM for services such as check-in, bag-check and boarding. Booking.com women in tech mentoring scheme partners Web Summit 2017:

A women in tech mentoring scheme is being created by Booking.com in partnership with the annual Web Summit conference. The initiative is a new component of Web Summit’s Women in Tech initiative introduced in 2015 to encourage open discussion about gender diversity in the technology industry. The on-site mentoring will give attendees at the event in Portugal on November 6-9 an opportunity to hear from some of the most inspiring women in the sector and receive one-to-one mentoring sessions. Web Summit has pledged to give away 14,000 free tickets to women interested in attending the 2017 event.
